Mayo Operating Scissors

The Mayo Operating Scissors features thick and robust blades that are built to handle cutting tasks that would damage or blunt a more delicate instrument. The blade edges are beveled to concentrate cutting force evenly across their length which allows the surgeon to work through dense connective tissue, muscle, fascia and suture material cleanly and without excessive effort.

The straight blade variant is the configuration of choice for cutting sutures and surface tissues where a direct line of sight to the cutting point is available. For this reason the straight Mayo is also commonly referred to as a suture scissors in many operating room settings. The curved blade variant allows the surgeon to access deeper tissue planes more comfortably and navigate around anatomical structures with greater ease and visibility.

The blade to handle ratio of the Mayo Operating Scissors is almost equal in length which positions the cutting pivot closer to the surgeon’s hand. This gives the instrument a strong mechanical advantage that makes cutting through tough fibrous structures feel controlled and effortless compared to scissors with a longer blade relative to their handle.

A Supercut variant is also available which incorporates a razor sharp upper blade and a micro serrated lower blade for superior cutting performance on particularly tough or slippery tissue. A Tungsten Carbide variant is also available for extended edge retention and longer service life across repeated sterilization cycles. Tungsten Carbide models are identified by gold colored ring handles for easy identification on the instrument tray.

The ring handles are ergonomically shaped to provide a secure and comfortable grip during prolonged operating sessions. The robust overall construction of the instrument ensures consistent performance across a high volume of surgical procedures.

Manufactured from premium grade surgical stainless steel with a satin finish to minimize glare. Fully autoclave compatible for repeated sterilization and long term clinical use.
