Stelzner Rectal Scissors

The Stelzner Rectal Scissors is built to handle one of the more demanding aspects of colorectal surgery, which is working accurately inside a narrow and confined anatomical canal. The rounded tips of the blades are designed to part tissue gently rather than pierce it, giving the surgeon a controlled way to open a dissection plane before the cutting edge is engaged. This staged approach reduces the chance of unintended injury to the rectal wall or nearby tissue.

The cutting edges themselves are angled to apply force evenly along their length rather than concentrating pressure at one point. This produces a cleaner cut through skin, fascia, membrane and soft tissue growths, and it allows the surgeon to work through denser tissue without excessive effort. The smooth outer surface of the blades helps the instrument pass through tissue layers without unnecessary drag or resistance.

Because rectal and anal procedures often require the surgeon to work at a distance from the visible surgical field, the instrument is built with long shanks relative to its blade length. This gives the surgeon dependable reach into the lower rectum without sacrificing control at the tip. Both curved and straight shank versions are available, with the curved option suited to deeper dissection and the straight option better suited to more superficial work near the anal opening.

The ring handles are shaped for a stable grip that holds up well over the course of a longer procedure, and the instrument’s overall weight is kept low to reduce strain on the surgeon’s hand.
